From Sunday brunch to the red carpet: The LWD story

Little white dresses. We featured them a few posts back (click here if you haven’t read it yet). But apparently, our favorite spring/summer staple isn’t done just yet. This time, they are saying that while they make for the perfect frock for Sunday brunches with the fam, or an afternoon picnic with the girlfriends, they also make for the most show-stopping Cannes Film Festival ensemble.

Okay, admittedly, this is not breaking news to a lot of you as our beloved LWDs aren’t exactly stranger to the red carpet. We’ve seen Taylor Swift in a Rafael Cennamo white mini at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards.

The year before that, she donned an even littler white dress at the 2010 People’s Choice Awards.

In the same event, our favorite fashionista, Diane Kruger, donned an Herve Leger white bodycon.

Actress Jennifer Carpenter also Walked the 2010 SAG Awards red carpet in a a long sleeved white mini dress by Paule Ka.

Interestingly, every time the little white dress is worn at any red carpet event, the celebrity wearing it usually makes it to the best dressed list. That is definitely saying something big about this little white frock.

No wonder then that models, actresses, and personalities present at Cannes this year for the annual Film Festival rely on the power of an LWD to make them party and red carpet ready. While we loved every single LWD we’ve seen so far (the festival will yet conclude later today) the one worn by model and movie actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is perhaps our favorite.

Rosie wore this strapless Dior dress which she matched with white Louboutin pumps to the amfAR Gala 2013. What we love about this LWD? The interesting hemline, the flared silhouette of the skirt, and the pockets! We’re really suckers for dresses with pockets, and red carpet dresses with pockets? Ah, they’re winners in our eyes.

Another model who went for a white mini is Barbara Palvin.

The Hungarian fashion model wore this embellished long sleeved LWD to Roberto Cavalli’s yacht party during the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

George Clooney’s other half, Stacy Keibler, was also present that night and also wore a white sequined mini which she topped with a leather jacket.

One of our favorite actresses, and whose impeccable fashion style we look up to (and envy, yes), Marion Cotillard, wore her Alexander McQueen white mini at the photo call for her movie, The Immigrant.

We love how she kept her hair away from her face in a high bun and kept her accessories minimal so as not to compete with the dress’ rose appliqué details. We truly love this girl’s style smarts.

We’ve love Australian actress Isla Fisher since Confessions of a Shopaholic. And we’re still loving her ’till now especially in this Dolce & Gabbana LWD.

We’re loving the demure neckline, the fit and flare silhouette, and the floral detailing. We love the hair and makeup, too.

So if you’ve been busting them LWDs out this season, you’re certainly in very good company. But if you haven’t stocked up on this closet essential yet, we hope these celebrities make a compelling case why you should. So go and get shopping Coco Fashionistas!
